Mustangs Place Third at Heart Championships as Zhong Places Third Individually
SMITHVILLE, Mo. — Mount Mercy University concluded the Heart of America Championships with Zephyr Zhong securing third place individually at 5-under, while Frank Haege tied for ninth at 2-over.
Missouri Valley took home the team title at nine under par, while Grand View placed second at three over. The Mustangs would place third after leading for a portion of the final round, ending at four over par as a team. William Woods and MidAmerica Nazarene rounded out the top five on the leaderboard.
Zhong led the team with a strong performance, finishing third overall with a final score of 5-under par. He was consistent across all three rounds, carding scores of 1-under, 3-under, and 1-under. Haege also made a notable contribution, tying for ninth place with a final score of 2-over par. His performance included a 2-under in the first round, but he encountered challenges in the final round with a 3-over.
Lincoln Beckett rounded out the top performers for the Mustangs, finishing tied for 12th at 4-over par. Beckett recovered from a 4-over in the first round with a 1-under in the second and a 1-over in the third. Wil Sigwarth finished 22nd with an overall score of 8-over, showing improvement with an even-par final round. Andrew Brown faced difficulties, ending tied for 39th at 17-over par.
