Mustangs draw with perennial-power Missouri Valley

MARSHALL, Mo. -- The Mount Mercy men's soccer team played perennial NAIA national power Missouri Valley to a scoreless draw in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Tuesday night at Gregg-Mitchell Field.

The hard-fought match featured solid play by both teams, but the Mustang defense came through in a big way, led by goalkeeper Jose Perez Piqueras (SO/Madrid, Spain). Mount Mercy erased several late-game attacks, including a Piqueras save on a penalty kick by Luka Glusevic in the fourth minute of the second overtime.

Shots were 17-6 in favor of the Vikings (2-1-1, 1-1-1 Heart), who put 11 of those attempts on goal compared to just two by the Mustangs (1-1-1, 1-0-0 Heart). Missouri Valley's defense and keeper Dusan Milosevic were stellar as well. He finished with a pair of saves.

Coming up this weekend, Mount Mercy hosts Park (2-0-0, 2-0-0 Heart) in a Heart of America clash at 3:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex.
