Wildcats edge Mustangs

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. — Saturday's Heart of America Athletic Conference contest between Mount Mercy and Baker was an evenly-matched showdown, but the host Wildcats got the better of the Mustangs, scoring a goal in each half to get the 2-0 win.

A Hunter French goal in the 13th minute and a score by Antonio Salas in the 65th minute was all that Baker needed. The Wildcats (5-5-0, 5-5-0 Heart) held a slim, 8-5 advantage in total shots while putting four of them on goal. The Mustangs managed only two shots on goal in the match. Jose Perez Piqueras and Maxwell Anderson split time in goal for Mount Mercy. Each allowed a goal, while Anderson recorded the lone save.

The Mustangs (1-4-2, 1-3-2 Heart) wrap up the home portion of their schedule this week, hosting Culver-Stockton (1-6-0, 1-5-0 Heart) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and Benedictine (6-4-0, 6-4-0 Heart) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Hadzic Field at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex in Cedar Rapids.
