Mustangs defeat Ravens in extra time

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Yu Sasaki (JR/Nara, Japan)'s second goal of the day came midway through the second overtime period to clinch a Heart of America Athletic Conference win over Benedictine on Saturday at Hadzic Field.

The golden goal by Sasaki was his team-best fifth of the season and helped the Mustangs (2-4-2, 2-3-2 Heart) snap a five-match winless streak since a 1-0 victory over Clarke on Sept. 15 in Dubuque. It's Mount Mercy's first victory in six matches against the Ravens (6-5-1, 6-5-1 Heart).

Mustang goalkeeper Lucca Munhoz (JR/Sao Paolo, Brazil) earned the victory in his first start for Mount Mercy, stopping four of Benedictine's eight shots on goal. His teammates added three saves of their own to aid the cause. Overall shots were 10-9 in favor of the Ravens, while shots on goal also favored Benedictine, 8-5.

Mount Mercy is home again on Tuesday, hosting Evangel (1-9-0, 0-8-0 Heart) at 3:00 p.m. at Hadzic Field.
