#19 Pioneers survive scare versus Mustangs

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Mount Mercy gave MidAmerica Nazarene all it could handle Saturday before falling, 1-0, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Hadzic Field.

Rick Hovinga scored the game's lone goal in the 67^th minute. The Mustangs outshot the 19^th-ranked Pioneers, 11-8, with Jake Cawkwell, Jordan Webb, Hayate Iino, and Antonio Cueller each taking one shot on goal. Mount Mercy goalie Joao Pedro Oliveira recorded three saves.

Mount Mercy fell to 4-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the Heart of America. The Mustangs host Clarke at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, then head to Parkville, Mo., for a match with Park next Saturday at 2:30 pm.
