Rocard Nets First Career Goal, Ortega Herreros Nets Two as Mustangs Defeat Culver-Stockton

CANTON, Mo. — Mount Mercy secured a 3-1 road win over Culver-Stockton on Wednesday, using two second-half goals to pull away in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.

The Mustangs (6-2-1, 3-1-0) opened scoring in the fourth minute when Pablo Ortega Herreros converted inside the box off a setup from Ensar Fejzic. Culver-Stockton (1-4-3, 0-3-1) equalized in the 32nd minute as Koya Nakamura capitalized on a defensive clearance to score unassisted, sending the match level at halftime.

Mount Mercy regained control after intermission. Ortega Herreros struck again in the 69th minute, finishing a service from Quintino Saggiorato for his 12th goal of the season. Just five minutes later, Cyprien Rocard doubled the advantage with his first career goal, assisted by Guilherme Venancio.

The Mustangs produced eight shots, five on frame, while limiting the Wildcats to three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Zach Biggs recorded two saves in the win, improving his record to 3-1-1. Culver-Stockton's Ricardo Fischbach made two saves but conceded three goals.

Set pieces proved decisive in momentum. Culver-Stockton held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks, including four in the opening 20 minutes, but failed to convert. Mount Mercy's back line absorbed the pressure, with timely clearances and recovery runs preventing further chances.

Discipline became a factor late as the Wildcats accumulated a yellow card in the 81st minute, one of 10 fouls committed. Mount Mercy finished with 11 fouls, most coming in the second half while protecting its lead.

The Mustangs will return home for a massive conference test, hosting second-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene at Hadzic Field on Saturday, with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m.
