FAYETTE, Mo. — Mount Mercy battled to a 1–1 draw against Central Methodist on Sunday night in a final push for a Heart playoff spot.
After a scoreless first half in which goalkeeper Alejandro Cuende made several crucial saves, the Mustangs broke through in the 54th minute. Defender Alessandro Redolfi capitalized on a loose ball in the box to record his first goal of the season, giving Mount Mercy a 1–0 advantage. The lead held until the 67th minute when Central Methodist's Koen Schimmel converted off an assist from Giulian Medaglia to equalize.
Cuende finished with six saves on 18 shots faced, anchoring a Mount Mercy back line that withstood seven corner kicks and consistent attacking pressure from the Eagles. The Mustangs generated four shots, one on goal, and maintained their composure through a physical contest that produced six yellow cards against the side.
The Mustangs continue the road trip with a matchup against Missouri Valley, slated for Friday in Marshall.
