Bio

Takaoka, a native of Japan, played four seasons for the Mustangs and was part of Mount Mercy's 2015 NAIA national tournament team. In all, he has been a coach for the Mustangs for six years, including two years as the graduate assistant and now as the full-time associate head coach. Takaoka has coaching experience with local high schools, including Linn-Mar in 2018 and Cedar Rapids Xavier from 2019-present. In 2019, Xavier was the 2A state tournament runner-up and the Saints were 2A state champions in 2021. Takaoka was named the Coach of the Year in the Mississippi Valley Conference in 2025, leading the Saints to a 9-2-1 regular season record.
