Three Mustangs hit qualifying marks at first home meet

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- A trio of Mount Mercy track & field athletes hit qualifying marks on Saturday at the Mustang Open at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex. Performances by Bre Nail, Deanna Newhouse, and Ceondae Adams highlighted Mount Mercy's first home meet of the season.

Nail, already a national qualifier in the shot put, shattered her own school record and hit the NAIA's automatic qualifying standard with a toss of 14.05 meters. That's also the top mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and ranks third in the nation. Nail also finished second in the discus (35.89m) and fourth in the hammer throw (39.68).

Newhouse finished second in the 10,000 meters with a personal record time of 37:58.95. That reached the NAIA's "B" standard and ranks as the second-fastest time in school history. Adams also set a school record and hit the NAIA "B" standard in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of :14.70.
