Mustangs compete at Drake Relays, Kip Janvrin Open ahead of Heart Championships
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy's Deanna Newhouse and Abby Hill along with a trio of Mustang men's relay squads competed at the Drake Relays. The Mustangs set three school records at Drake and counted nine personal records at the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson.
Hill placed 20th in the javelin with a toss of 35.07 meters, while Newhouse, an NAIA outdoor national qualifier, ran 26th in the 10,000 meters in 38:49.73.
The men's sprint medley relay team of Ceondae Adams, Connor Christophersen, Jordan Schroeder, and Ryan Clancy finished 13th in the Division 3 finals with a school-record time of 3:31.99.
Adams, Nate Keiper, Schroeder, and Christophersen teamed up for two more school records in the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays. They placed 17th in the 4x100 Division 3 preliminaries in :42.27 and ended up 18th in the 4x200 Division 1 finals in 1:29.54.
The Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by William Penn, are slated for Friday and Saturday, May 6-7, in Oskaloosa.
