Mustangs Earn Seventh-Place Finish at Heart Conference

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Mount Mercy University secured a commanding performance at the 2026 Heart Conference, highlighted by Noah Gregoire's first-place finish in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:02.55 and strong showings in the men's long jump and hammer events, contributing to a successful meet.

Baylor Speidel placed 10th in the Men's 100 Meters preliminaries with a time of 10.79 and took 6th in the Men's 200 Meters finals at 21.77, scoring 3 points. Trevor Leitheiser finished 13th in the Men's 400 Meters with a time of 50.31.

In the Men's 800 Meters, Seth Countryman secured 8th place with a time of 1:56.08, contributing 1 point. The Men's 4 x 800 Relay team, consisting of Jack Stamp, Countryman, Brady Cortez, and Noah Valenzuela, finished 5th with a time of 7:45.07, earning 4 points.

Gregoire won the Men's 10,000 Meters with a time of 31:02.55, earning 10 points, and placed 6th in the Men's 5000 Meters at 15:11.90, scoring 3 points. In the Men's 1500 Meters, Jack Stamp finished 6th with a time of 4:00.68 and 3 points, while Cortez took 8th at 4:01.07, adding 1 point. Josh Smith placed 24th in the same event with a time of 4:41.54.

Levi Wilson-Bries finished 21st in the Men's 110 Hurdles preliminaries with a time of 17.68.

Daylin Schaefer claimed 2nd place in the Men's Long Jump with a mark of 7.09m, earning 8 points. Oscar Nielsen secured 7th in the Men's High Jump with a height of 1.81m, contributing 1.5 points. In the Men's Pole Vault, Tyler Morgan finished 9th with a mark of 3.75m.

In the Men's Hammer, Michael Glass took 2nd place with a throw of 52.80m, scoring 8 points, while Charles Sundquist placed 6th with a mark of 49.94m, adding 3 points.

In the Men's Discus, Isaac Hernandez and Glass finished 20th and 22nd with marks of 37.60m and 36.62m, respectively. Sundquist placed 22nd in the Men's Shot Put with a mark of 12.09m.

In the Men's Javelin, Owen McBride finished 9th with a throw of 47.12m.

Despite their efforts, Mount Mercy finished 7th overall with 50.5 points, in a competitive field led by Benedictine (Kan.) with 147 points, followed by Central Methodist with 134 points, Park U. with 118 points, William Penn with 116.5 points, and MidAmerica Nazarene with 112 points.
