CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy made it four sweeps in four matches to open the season, defeating Morningside, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 in non-conference NAIA men's volleyball on Saturday afternoon at Hennessey Recreation Center.
It was another balanced offensive attack for the 15th-ranked Mustangs (4-0), led by nine kills apiece by Akeel Oxley and Colin Castelnau. Raphael Massara hit .778 with seven kills and four blocks while Bo Brainerd hit .545 with seven kills and four total blocks. Rafael Vieyra finished with 28 assists and Douglas Fofano posted a team-high eight digs.
Natan Alves drilled a team-high nine kills and added seven digs and three blocks for Morningside (3-2). Isaiah Baynes chipped in five kills, Jacob DePauw 16 assists, Owen Anderson seven digs, and Tharen Cox five total blocks.
Up next for Mount Mercy is a home match against Viterbo on Tuesday at 6:00 pm at Hennessey Rec Center.
