Mustangs sting Bees twice, host ninth-ranked Statesmen on Tuesday

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The 15th-ranked Mount Mercy men's volleyball team will take a perfect 10-0 record and 30-set win streak into Tuesday's Heart of America opener against ninth-ranked William Penn after sweeping two matches from St. Ambrose on Thursday night at Lee Lohman Arena.

The Mustangs have yet to drop a set this season. They opened with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 victory over the Bees on Thursday, then claimed match number two, 25-14, 25-21, 25-18. William Penn is 5-1 this season, which includes wins over nationally-ranked opponents Saint Xavier, Lourdes, and Menlo. The only blemish on their record is a 3-1 loss to then-fourth-ranked Ottawa (Ariz.) on a neutral court in Chicago.

Brian Lynch totaled 13 kills against the Bees to lead all Mustang attackers. Colin Castelnau added 12 kills, Bo Brainerd and Alessandro Spendolini 10 each. Mount Mercy's assist leader was Rafael Vieyra with 55 in five sets. They were led in digs by Douglas Fofano with 10, while Lynch also recorded three total blocks. Matthew Krzos and Raphael Massara had two blocks apiece.
