Spartans Stop Mustang Win Streak; Sweep Mount Mercy
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Mount Mercy men's volleyball win streak halted at five games after Missouri Baptist swept the Mustangs by set scores of 21-25, 20-25, and 25-27.
The Spartans (14-4, 3-4 Heart) would hold the slight edge in kills in the match, outnumbering Mount Mercy by a narrow 39-38 margin. Missouri Baptist would also hold the edge in hitting percentage at .306 to the Mustangs .198.
Senior Akeel Oxley led the way for Mount Mercy (16-4, 4-4 Heart) on the attack, ending the match with 16 kills. The 16 kills are tied for his third-highest total of the season. Bo Brainerd contributed another seven kills in the loss.
Missouri Baptist saw two players with at least 10 kills in the match, led by Aleksa Mandic, who ended the night with 14. Mandic also contributed a team-high .407 hitting percentage. Right behind Mandic was Michael Olson, who contributed 11 kills to the Spartan offense, while adding a .381 hitting percentage to pace Missouri Baptist in the win.
The Mustangs will look to return to the win column and start a new winning streak tomorrow, continuing the Missouri swing by taking on UHSP in St. Louis.
