Mustangs split with Bees, Lancers at Ambrose Dome
DAVENPORT, Iowa — Jayna Witzany tossed a one-hit shutout and Natalie Tecklenburg drove in a pair of runs to lead the Mount Mercy softball team to a 3-0 victory over St. Ambrose on Saturday. The Mustangs dropped a 4-0 decision to Mount Marty in game two at the Ambrose Dome.
Sam Lee scored on a Tecklenburg sacrifice fly in the first and again on an RBI single in the fifth. Raquel Trolliet also had a pair of hits for the Mustangs. Witzany struck out 13 and walked three over seven innings to improve to 3-1 this season.
Mount Mercy (4-6) was limited to three hits by the Lancers (3-2) in their second game of the day. A two-run triple and run-scoring single in the second inning gave Mount Marty more than enough for the win. They tacked on another run in the sixth. Kalli Minger (1-3) went the distance, allowing four earned runs on six hits with 13 strikeouts and four walks.
The Mustangs have four games this weekend at the Two Rivers Youth Complex in Wichita, Kan. On Friday they face Mount Marty again at noon and then Midland at 2:00 pm. Saturday's schedule has Mount Mercy taking on Concordia (Neb.) at 10:00 am and Saint Mary (Kan.) at 2:00 pm.
