Vikings' hot start burns Mustangs

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Grand View scored 29 points in the first quarter and led 47-20 at halftime as the Vikings defeated Mount Mercy, 78-57, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Sisam Arena.

The Mustangs (2-7, 1-2 Heart) rebounded nicely, outscoring the Vikings 37-31 after intermission, but it wasn't enough to escape their third-straight loss. Mount Mercy can end that streak on Wednesday when they host Culver-Stockton at 5:30 pm at Hennessey Recreation Center.

Kyla Richardson poured in a game-high 19 points to go with five rebounds and four blocks for the Mustangs. Sassy Coleman added seven points and a team-best eight boards, McKenzie Stoehr seven points and six rebounds.

Shannon Pisney's 16 points led three Vikings in double digits. Ella Larsen chipped in 14 points, Isabel Gscheidle 13 points off the bench.
