Mustangs drop two at Bruin Classic, eye return home to start 2022
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- After dropping a pair of close games at the Hampton Inn Bruin Classic this week, the Mount Mercy women's basketball team looks ahead to a pair of home games at Hennessey Recreation Center.
In their first game since Dec. 18, the Mustangs lost in the final minute to Mayville State, 69-66, on Thursday at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center in Bellevue, Neb. Sassy Coleman had 20 points and seven rebounds while Madison Dreckman added a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards. Kyla Richardson tallied 13 points and three steals.
On Friday, Mount Mercy saw an 11-point halftime lead disappear as host Bellevue edged the Mustangs, 66-60. Dreckman scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Coleman posted 13 points and nine boards. Annika Headington chipped in 11 points to go along with six rebounds.
Mount Mercy (4-11, 2-3 Heart) renews its intra-city rivalry with Coe (4-8) on Monday at 5:00 pm at Hennessey Rec Center, then hosts Heart of America Athletic Conference foe William Penn (1-15, 1-4 Heart) on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
