Mia, Dreckman, and Headington earn all-conference honors
OLATHE, Kan. - Three Mustang women's basketball players have been recognized for their contributions on the court as voted on by Heart of America Athletic Conference coaches. Sammy Mia, Madison Dreckman, and Annika Headington are the honorees for Mount Mercy.
Mia, a senior guard, is a four-time All-Heart selection, earning honorable mention as a freshman and sophomore and then being named second-team in her junior and senior campaigns. Mia averaged 16.2 points per game this season to lead Mount Mercy. She also surpassed the 1,000 point mark becoming the 32nd Mustang to do so. She ends her career with 1,227 points, 20th all-time at Mount Mercy. Mia led the team with 420 points scored and 29 steals.
Dreckman, a junior forward, also earned second-team All-Heart honors, becoming a two-time selection. She posted 11.5 points per game and a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game. Dreckman played the most minutes of any Mustang and connected on 38 3-pointers. She also pulled down 221 rebounds (189 defensive, 32 offensive) to lead the Mustangs. Her 69 assists were also a team-high.
Headington, a sophomore guard, followed-up her freshman season with her second consecutive honorable mention all-Heart selection. Despite missing seven games, she was the third-highest leading scorer for the Mustangs at 10.3 points per game. She also shot the ball from 3-point range at an incredible 48.1 percent (13-for-27). Headington led the team from the free throw stripe, shooting 83.7 percent (77-for-92). She pulled down a second-best 159 rebounds (99 defensive, 60 offensive) and she dished out 61 assists.
