Felderman, Mustangs runner-up in Spring debut

LAKE TEXOMA, Texas - The Mount Mercy women's golf team had a strong showing for their first time on the links on Sunday and Monday, coming in second at the Tussle at Tanglewood they co-hosted with Park (Mo.). As a team, the Mustangs shot 667 at the Tanglewood Resort Golf Course. 

Breanna Felderman set the tone for Mount Mercy, shooting the low on both days. She fired an 80 in round one followed by a 79 in round two. She tied for second with 159, but after a cardback, she was declared runner-up. She recorded three birdies and 19 pars for her first top-five finish of the 2023 season. 

Aoi Ito was 11th (83-84=167), Lucia Larruscain was 13th (82-87=169), Gracie Murray tied for 16th (85-87=172), and Kirsten Miller rounded out the Mustang five tied for 26th (91-90=181). The team put together rounds of 330 and 337 to solidify second overall. Texas Wesleyan was the team champion at 642 (325-317) as they were the only team in the top five to improve their score from round one to round two. Bethany (Kan.) was third (336-344=680), Kansas Wesleyan was fourth (340-343=683), and Baker (Kan.) was fifth (344-354=698). 

Also competing for Mount Mercy as individuals were Maddie Hornback, Alison Robu, and Grace Haas. Hornback carded 88 and 92 for 25th place. Robu gained a stroke for a total of 189 (95-94) and tied for 32nd. Haas had the greatest improvement of all Mustangs, taking four strokes off her first round score (100-96=196) to come in 39th.

Mount Mercy has two weeks off before they are back in action at the William Woods Spring Championship on Monday and Tuesday, March 27-28 held at the Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Mo.
