Mustangs Hold Off Kohawks in Home Dual
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's golf team came out victorious on Thursday, holding off the Coe Kohawks in a home dual taking place at Ellis Park Golf Course.
Gracie Murray took home the top spot overall, shooting even par. Murray would par each of her first three holes while carding her only bogey on the front nine, as she would then par her next five holes. On the back nine, Murray started off with four straight pars before recording the first birdie of her round. Following two more pars and a bogey, Murray ended her round with a birdie on the 18th to finish even par.
The next two Mustangs to place were Carli Irvine and Kyla Johnson, both of whom would shoot eight-over. Irvine would par the first four holes, while Johnson would par two of the first four. Both Irvine and Johnson would birdie the par five 17th, as each golfer would shoot an 80. The final countable score came from Grace Haas at an 11-over, good for sixth place. Haas would par the first two holes, before recording a par on the final two of the front nine, before recording two pars and a birdie on the back nine.
Lauren McPhillips-Newcomb was the final Mustang on the card at 14-over, good for 11th place. McPhillips-Newcomb would card a pair of pars on the front nine, while carding three pars and a birdie on the back nine.
The Mustangs will have the next week and a half off before traveling to Kansas City for the Park Invite, scheduled to tee off on October 7 at National Bluffs.
