Mustangs Finish Second at Mustang Spring Championship
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Mustang women's golf team finished the Mustang Spring Championship in second, finishing only behind William Penn, shooting a team score of 683 over two rounds.
William Penn took home the top spot ending with a team score of 661, 22 shots better than the Mustangs. Behind the Mustangs was Des Moines Area CC and St. Aambrose at 714 and 721, respectively. Fellow Heart foe Grand View would not record a team score in the tournament.
Individually, the Statesmen's Olivia Lange and Gabriana Franco would each tie for first at 14-over for the tournament, as both golfers would shoot rounds of seven-over in both rounds. The Mustangs would place two in the top five, as Gracie Murray and Carli Irvine ended in third and fourth, respectively, shooting a 21-over and 22-over.
Following a cold and windy round one, Murray would bounce back with a nine-over final round, carding 10 pars, shooting a three-over 36 on the front nine. Irvine would shoot a consistent round in the final round, shooting a 42 on both sides of the course. Grace Haas would finish just outside the top 10, finishing in 11th after shooting 30-over. Haas would see quite the improvement from round one to round two, shooting 10 shots better than the opening round while carding two birdies on the back nine.
The Mustangs will finish the season at the Heart of America Championships, taking place next week at LionsGate GC in Kansas City.
