Mustangs Close the Season in Fourth at Heart Championships
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Mustang women's golf team capped off the 2024-25 campaign at the Heart of America Championships, ending the tournament in fourth place.
William Penn captured the conference crown, ending with a team score of +116 after dropping 13 shots between the second and third rounds. Baker would finish in second, just 11 shots behind William Penn at +127, while Park would round out the top three, just five shots behind Baker. From there, the Mustangs would finish 40 shots behind Park, while finishing 53 shots ahead of fifth place Central Methodist.
On the individual side, Olivia Lange captured the individual title, beating out Anna Korsen of Park by just one shot. Gracie Murray was the top Mustang finisher, ending at 32-over par, finishing just inside the top 10 in a tie for ninth. Murray would shoot her best round of the tournament in the third round at six-over par, improving her standing on the leaderboard by six places. Murray would shoot a pair of 39s in her final round.
Carli Irvine was the other Mustang to finish inside the top 15, ending in 13th at 38-over par. After shooting rounds of 11-over in each of her first two rounds, she would drop a few shots to 16-over after the final round. Lauren McPhillips-Newcomb would finish just outside the top 20, ending in 22nd at 48-over. The freshman would improve her scores in rounds one and two by three in round three, shooting a 14-over third round.
The Mustangs will look to build on this year heading into the 2025-26 campaign, with their sights set on a Heart crown once again.
