Mustangs Take Home Third at Mustang Fall Invite
MARION, Iowa — Mount Mercy placed third in its home event, the Mustang Fall Invite, at Hunters Ridge Golf Course on Sunday. The Mustangs carded a two-round total of 638 (323-315), finishing behind champion Indian Hills Community College (628) and runner-up Morningside (632). Doane University rounded out the top four at 657.
Gracie Murray led Mount Mercy with a 152 (75-77), placing second overall. Murray would card a pair of birdies on the front nine, while carding birdies on two of her final five holes. Carli Irvine followed with a 157 (79-78) to tie for seventh, while Chiara Bothe tied for eighth with a pair of 79 rounds for a 158. Lauren McPhillips-Newcomb shot 173 (92-81), tying for 47th, and Kyla Johnson closed the lineup with a 174 (90-84), also tying for 38th.
Mount Mercy's B team placed 11th with a total of 728 (361-367). Grace Haas led the B squad with a 173 (83-90), tying for 34th. Ila Fontaine tied for 51st at 180 (92-88), followed by Hailey Shaw in 63rd with 187 (93-94). Bretlyn Decker rounded out the group in 65th with a 188 (93-95).
The Mustangs will next compete on the course at the St. Kate's Fall Invite, taking place at Bremar GC in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday.
