Women's Golf Captures Second Heart Title in Three Seasons

SMITHVILLE, Mo. - The Mount Mercy women's golf team came out victorious at the Heart of America Championships, marking the second title the team has won in the past three seasons.

The Mustangs would cruise to the team title, winning by 52 shots over Clarke, who would end in second place. Baker would place third with a team score of 998, while William Woods would round out the top four at 1007.

Chiara Bothe would win the individual title, her sixth win of the season, tying a school record for most wins in a season. Bothe would shoot a ten over par tournament, including an even par round over the final 18 holes. Gracie Murray would land on the all-conference team, ending in solo fourth at 16 over par. Murray would improve her first and second round scores by four shots to finish inside the top five. Lauren McPhillips-Newcomb placed sixth, landing on the all-conference team, at 19 over par, shooting her best tournament round in the second round at three over par.

Bothe would also rack up individual accolades, being the individual medalist at the tournament, while winning the conference Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year after her stellar campaign to start her Mustang career. Head coach Jordan Amelon would also earn the conference Coach of the Year after guiding the team to five tournament victories.

The Mustangs will next compete at the NAIA Championships, taking place in Ypsilanti, Michigan, starting on May 19.
