Stellar season comes to a close for Mustangs
YPSILANTI, Mich. — Mount Mercy wrapped up the season on Thursday after round two of the NAIA Women's Golf Championship at Eagle Crest Golf Club. The Mustangs shot 334 to miss the cut line as just 16 teams advanced to the final round of the 54-hole event.
Dalton State and defending national champion British Columbia sit atop the leaderboard at 608 through 36 holes. SCAD Atlanta is right on their heels at 610, followed closely by SCAD Savannah at 611 and Southeastern at 612. Embry-Riddle and Pikeville were the final teams in at 635. Mount Mercy ended up at 657 after rounds of 323 and 334.
Chiara Bothe, who was seventh after 18 holes following an opening-round 75, dipped to 81 on Thursday to finish at 12-over-par 156. Lauren Phillips-Newcomb ended the national championship at 166 (84-82). Carli Irvine also improved by two shots over her first-round 86 to shoot 84 and end up at 170. Teammate Kyla Johnson shot 83-87 to sit at 170 as well. Bretlyn Decker was next for the Mustangs at 173 (81-92).
Friday's final round begins at 6:30 am Central Time.
