Lacrosse Drops Season Finale to Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Mount Mercy University (0-8, 0-6) suffered a decisive 29-0 defeat against Missouri Baptist University (10-5, 5-1) on Thursday at Spartan Field. Despite the loss, the Mustangs managed to collect eight ground balls and forced five caused turnovers during the matchup.

The first quarter began with Missouri Baptist taking control early, as Skyler Morrissey scored the opening goal at 14:16, assisted by Madison Terrell. Missouri Baptist maintained its momentum with Sophia Rose and Alexis Taylor each finding the net, bringing the score to 3-0. Despite Lauren O'Toole's efforts in goal for Mount Mercy, including multiple saves, Missouri Baptist extended its lead to 7-0 by the end of the quarter. Delaney Pechnik and JaHyghness Ward also contributed to the scoring, while Pechnik dominated the draw controls, setting up multiple offensive opportunities for the home team.

Missouri Baptist dominated the second quarter, extending its lead with a series of goals. Morrissey opened the scoring with a goal at 14:26, followed by Jackie Oehler's goal assisted by Marissa Oldham at 11:37. Oldham then scored again, assisted by Bella McMillan at 10:57. McMillan added another goal, assisted by Rose at 08:32. Missouri Baptist continued to control the game, with Hayley Schnefke scoring at 02:30 and Ella Isgrigg, assisted by Rose, capping the quarter with a goal at 01:09. By the end of the quarter, Missouri Baptist led 14-0.

Missouri Baptist dominated the third quarter, extending its lead with multiple goals. Pechnik was instrumental, scoring twice at 13:18 and again at 11:00, as well as controlling the draw effectively. Rose and Morrissey each added a goal, with Morrissey's being assisted by Terrell at 6:09. Terrell later scored at 2:30 with an assist from Rose, and Emma Redd capped the quarter with a goal at 0:59. The Mustangs struggled to break through, with their efforts marked by turnovers and a failed clear attempt.

Missouri Baptist maintained strong offensive momentum in the fourth quarter, beginning with Isgrigg's goal at 14:02, assisted by Rose. Morrissey dominated the scoring for Missouri Baptist with three consecutive goals, including an unassisted goal at 10:52 and another assisted by Grace Gumper at 5:03. Ward and Pechnik also contributed to the scoring surge, with Pechnik's goal assisted by Terrell at 3:35. Oldham and Taylor added goals, with Taylor's goal assisted by Oldham at 1:18, sealing Missouri Baptist's decisive victory.

O'Toole recorded four ground balls and two caused turnovers, providing a solid defensive effort for the Mustangs. Shaine Grinde contributed by collecting a ground ball and causing two turnovers. Megan David added to the defensive efforts with one ground ball and one caused turnover.
