Pair of early goals sink Mustangs
DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Clarke notched a pair of early goals and those scores held up as the Pride defeated Mount Mercy, 2-0, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference women's soccer opener Tuesday night.
The match was a one-sided affair when it came to offense, with Clarke (2-0-0, 1-0-0 Heart) taking 33 shots compared to only three for Mount Mercy (1-1-0, 0-1-0 Heart). Of those 33 shots, the Pride put 18 on-goal but Sarah Johnson (SR/Middle Amana, Iowa) stopped 16 of them. The only two that got through were an Acacia Dabareiner goal in the fourth minute and Reese Castanon's score three minutes later.
Mount Mercy's home opener is coming up this weekend when the Mustangs host Evangel (2-0-0, 0-0-0 Heart) at noon at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex.
