Women's soccer ties with Waldorf

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- In their final match before opening conference play next week, the Mount Mercy women's soccer team played Waldorf to a scoreless draw on Wednesday evening at Hadzic Field.

The Warriors (1-4-2) maintained a slight edge in total shots (14-11) and shots on goal (9-5), but possession was balanced throughout the match. Miran Sakai and Brielle Bastian combined for seven of the Mustangs' 11 shots and each put two of them on goal. Isabel Alvarez took a pair of shots, putting one on frame. Goalkeeper Grace Byers stopped nine shots for Mount Mercy (1-0-1).

The Mustangs take on Clarke in their Heart of America Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 5:00 pm at Burrows Field in Dubuque. After that, it's a trip to Olathe, Kan., for another Heart matchup with MidAmerica Nazarene on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 1:00 pm.
