DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Despite 10 stops by goalkeeper Grace Byers, the Mount Mercy women's soccer team dropped their Heart of America Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday night. Clarke scored a goal in each half to defeat the Mustangs, 2-0, at Burrows Field.
The Pride (4-1-1, 1-0-0 Heart) out-shot the Mustangs overall, 28-4, and had 12 shots on-frame compared to one by Mount Mercy. That came off the foot of Miran Sakai. Clarke's Genevieve Cruz (22') and Shannon Catchur (53') accounted for the two Pride goals.
Mount Mercy (1-1-1, 0-1-0 Heart) is on the road again this weekend, traveling to Olathe, Kan., to take on MidAmerica Nazarene (3-1-0, 0-0-0 Heart) on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Pioneer Field.
