O'Toole Scores a Pair as the Mustangs Take Down Coe in 2025 Opener

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mustangs offense put on a show as Lauren O'Toole nets a brace in the season opener, as Mount Mercy takes down cross-town foe Coe College, 4-1.

Coe got on the board first in the opening 45 minutes, as Dessa Snyder scored with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half off a pass from Magdalynne Preuss, jumping ahead 1-0. O'Toole got the Mustangs back into the game, netting her first of the game off the feed from Brielle Bastian, tying the game at one heading into halftime.

Orla Humphrey added her first of the season eight minutes into the second half, giving the Mustangs their first lead of the game, which they would never relinquish. Bastian added herself to the scoresheet later on in the second half on a penalty kick, giving the Mustangs a two goal lead. O'Toole added her second of the game, capping off a four goal team performance in the 86th minute off a pass from Nadine Sanchez, as the Mustangs came out victorious in the season opener for the first time since 2022.

The Mustang defense was able to limit the amount of opportunities for Coe, as the Kohawks only managed one shot in the game, but they made that shot count with a goal.

The Mustangs will return to the pitch on Saturday, taking on Briar Cliff, with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. at Hadzic Field in Cedar Rapids.
