Mustangs count eight wins plus a meet record for Nail

DECORAH, Iowa -- In all, the Mount Mercy men's and women's track & field teams totaled eight events wins while Bre Nail set a meet record while winning the shot put at the Luther College Invitational on Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center.

The Mustang men earned three event victories. Ceondae Adams was part of two of those wins, claiming the 55-meter hurdles with a time of :08.03 and helping the 4x200 meter relay squad take their event with a school-record time of 1:31.71. Mitch Miller was also victorious in the weight throw with a toss of 48'-1 3/4".

More top-five finishers on the men's side were Lukas Lamparek in the 3,000 meter run (2nd/PR/9:31.05), Felipe Castro in the shot put (2nd/44'-2 3/4"), Caleb Rutherford in the weight throw (3rd/45'-9") and shot put (43'-9 3/4"), Sergio Chofong in the 55 meter dash (4th/:06.86), Ryan Clancy in the 1,000 meter run (5th/2:42.95), and the 4x400 meter relay group of Luke Munsey, Oscar Lopez, Clancy, and Nick Jordan (5th/3:46.84).

Women's event winners included Andrea Ertz, Carli Reittinger, Annie Leopold, and Nail. Ertz claimed the mile run in 5:04.37 while once again hitting the NAIA's automatic qualifying standard. She also won the 3,000 meter run in 10:52.82. Reittinger was first across the finish line in the 1,000 meters with a personal record time of 3:20.12. Leopold won the 55-meter hurdles in :09.01 and Nail set the meet record in the shot put with a toss of 43'-11 3/4". That was also enough to reach the NAIA B qualifying standard.

There were plenty of top-five finishers, too. Deanna Newhouse was runner-up in the 3,000 meters (PR/10:53.16), Cristina Villalobos was second in the weight throw (44'-11"), Third-place finishers were J'Lyn Knutson in the 3,000 meters (PR/10:57.92); Haley Hartshorne in the high jump (4'7 3/4"); Lauren Willson in the shot put (38'-8 1/4"); the 4x200 meter relay team of Sophie Feahn, Ally Trager, Kate Garner, and Leopold (1:55.31); and the 4x400 meter relay squad including Trager, Reittinger, Garner, and Sydney Woods (4:25.09).

Jessa Day was fourth in the mile (PR/5:47.13), Ellen Kengas fourth in the shot put (37'-4"). Fifth-place finishers were Feahn in the 55-meter hurdles (:07.85), Woods in the mile (PR/5:47.87), Jessica Ertz in the 3,000 meters (11:37.44), and Villalobos in the shot put (36'-10 1/2").

Coming up for the Mustangs will be the Fighting Scot Invitational hosted by Monmouth on Friday, then it's the Heart of America Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18-19, at Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo.
