Adams, Miller join list of national qualifiers
MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Ceondae Adams and Mitch Miller joined Mount Mercy's list of NAIA national qualifiers this weekend while setting school records in the 60-meter hurdles and weight throw, respectively, at the Fighting Scot Invitational hosted by Monmouth.
Adams won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of :08.32, setting a school record and hitting the NAIA "B" qualifying standard for the indoor national meet next month. He also won the 60-meter dash in :07.04. Miller also set a school record while winning his event, the weight throw. His distance of 16.95m met the NAIA's "B" standard as well.
Also making the Mount Mercy men's top-five performance list at Monmouth were Nate Keiper, who finished second in the 400-meter dash and with the second-fastest time in school history (:51.30), and Ryan Clancy, winning the mile run in 4:30.59 to move into fifth all-time.
Top-five finishers on the men's side Carter Bell in the long jump (2nd/6.09m), Jordan Schroeder in the 400 meters (3rd/:51.83), Keiper in the 200-meter dash (4th/:23.63), Nate Skala (4th/2:03.82) and Oscar Lopez (5th/2:04.69) in the 800-meter run, Lukas Lamparek (4th/4:50.42) and Matt Hellige (5th/4:51.91) in the mile (4th/4:50.42), and Felipe Castro in the shot put (5th/13.17m).
On the women's side, J'Lyn Knutson and Carli Reittinger were event winners. Knutson ran the fifth-best time in school history while winning the mile in 5:25.48, while Reittinger won the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:27.62.
There were more top-five finishers, including Annie Leopold in the 60-meter hurdles (2nd/:09.54), Ally Trager in the 400 meters (4th/1:04.44), Sydney Woods in the 800 meters (3rd/2:34.06), Ariana Lopez in the mile (5th/6:01.14), Haley Hartshorne (4th/1.44m) and Sophie Feahn (5th/1.44m) in the high jump, Bre Nail (2nd/13.56m) and Cristina Villalobos (5th/12.29m) in the shot put, and Lauren Willson in the weight throw (4th/15.71m). Feahn was also fourth in the 60-meter dash (:08.38).
The Heart of America Indoor Track & Field Championships are coming up this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18-19, at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo.
