Mustangs Finish Strong at the Cornell Winter Classic

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Mount Mercy University women's indoor track and field team earned top finishes in multiple events at the Cornell Winter Classic.

In the sprints, freshman Kaylee Bunn placed second in the 60m dash with a time of 8.00 seconds, while fellow freshman Gralynn Martin clocked 8.46 seconds for sixth place. Junior Dayna Maiers achieved a personal record in the 60m with 9.10 seconds. Senior Esther Attwood secured a fourth-place finish in the 400m, running 1:05.58.

The distance events showcased the Mustangs' depth as senior Corinne Gadient earned third in the 1000m with 3:11.77, followed closely by freshman Catie Reittinger in fourth at 3:13.27. In the 3000m, senior Ariana Lopez placed third with a time of 12:14.96.

Field events were highlighted by sophomore Carla Santos, who clinched first place in the pole vault, clearing 3.05 meters. Freshman Claire Geerts took first in the shot put with a throw of 10.77 meters, while sophomore Natalie DeFord set a personal record in the weight throw at 12.36 meters, earning third place.

The women's 4x200m relay team of Bunn, Gadient, Martin, and Reittinger claimed victory with a time of 1:51.65.

The Mustangs will travel to two locations on Saturday as they will compete in the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic in Missouri and the Frigid Bee Invite in Davenport, Iowa.
