Mustangs Prove Successful at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's indoor track and field team found success in multiple events while competing at the Grinnell Invite on Saturday.

In the 60m dash, Kaylee Bunn took third place with a time of 8.08 seconds, surpassing her prelim time of 8.17. Abby Knepper placed third in the 800m run with a time of 2:28.82, while Annabelle Neal finished 11th at 2:38.16. The Mustangs secured second place in the 4x400m relay as Brooklyn Johnson, Catie Reittinger, Ester Attwood, and Corinne Gadient ran a time of 4:12.02.

The 1600 medley team—Gralynn Martin, Kiah Coffin, Hannah Peters, and Laura Bishop—finished in third place with a time of 5:13.05. In the distance medley, the Mustangs claimed both first and second place. Corinne Gadient, Brooklyn Johnson, Catie Reittinger, and Abby Knepper took first with a time of 12:49.86, while Kendall Orozco, Ester Attwood, Annabelle Neal, and Kayla Overton finished second with a time of 13:38.92.

The throwing events also brought success at the Grinnell Invite. In the shot put, Bre Nail finished in second place with a toss of 13.11m, while Ava Conrad took sixth place with a personal-record toss of 11.91m. Jzone Jones (14.64m), Ava Conrad (14.30m), and Alyssa Striegel (14.15m) secured fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively, in the weight throw.

Grinnell took home the title of the meet with a total of 172 points, followed by Illinois College (111) in second, Monmouth (87) in third, and Mount Mercy coming in fourth place with 62 points. 

The Mustangs will be back in action as they travel to Romeoville, Ill., to compete at the Lewis Invite and to Waverly, Iowa, for the Knight Lights Meet on February 7.
