Striegel Meets 'B' Standard for Nationals at CMU Invite
FAYETTE, Mo. - Mount Mercy's women's outdoor track and field team found success at the Central Methodist Invite on March 28-29.
Thrower, Alyssa Striegel met the "B" standard nationals qualifying mark in the discus throw after taking the title for the event with a toss of 44.21m. Striegel also finished eighth in the hammer (40.67m) and fourth in the shot put (11.95m).
The hammer throw also saw Natalie DeFord taking third place in the event with a toss of 43.78m with teammate Ava Conrad trailing in sixth at 42.07m. Conrad also took second in the shot put at 12.46m.
The Mustangs took the top three places in the discus event. Following Striegel was Conrad in second (43.55m), Grace Kelley in third (40.70m), and DeFord rounding out the Mustangs in sixth (37.37m).
In the running events, Corinne Gadient finished sixth in the 1500m at 5:02.28 with J'Lyn Knutson following in eighth at 5:06.22. Gadient also claimed the title for the 800m race at 2:18.68 with Catie Reittinger finishing eighth overall at 2:23.62.
Mount Mercy will be back in action on April 5 as they compete at the Cornell Invitational.
