Mustangs Shine in Field Events at Cornell Invite

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's outdoor track and field team turned in a strong performance at the Cornell Invitational on Saturday, April 5.

Ava Conrad led the way for the Mustangs, winning both the discus and shot put, throwing 41.44 meters in the discus, and posting a mark of 12.18 meters in the shot put. Alyssa Striegel followed in the discus with a second-place finish (40.07m), while Grace Kelley took third (39.80m) and Natalie DeFord placed sixth (34.80m).

DeFord led the Mustangs in the hammer throw with a runner-up finish at 41.34 meters. Striegel finished fourth (40.37m), followed by Kelley in fifth (39.99m), Conrad in seventh (39.75m), Claire Geerts in ninth (36.70m), and Jaclyn Wooldridge in 10th (34.17m).

In the javelin, Miyah Fox led the Mustangs with an eighth-place finish at 23.58 meters, while Geerts placed ninth (20.62m).

Carla Santos claimed the pole vault title with a clearance of 2.90 meters.

Conrad was joined in the shot put top 10 by Striegel, who placed fourth (11.50m), Geerts in seventh (10.61m), and Kelley in eighth (10.49m).

Mount Mercy returns to action on Friday, April 11, when they host the Mustang Distance Carnival & Open.
