Six Event Titles Propel Mustangs at DeBacker Invitational
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Mount Mercy's women's track and field team earned six event titles while celebrating senior day at the home DeBacker Invitational.
In the field events, three different Mustangs captured four individual wins. Ava Conrad took first in the discus, recording a mark of 43.10 meters. Grace Kelley followed in second (40.44m), with Alyssa Striegel in third (38.88m) and Natalie DeFord placing sixth (35.40m).
Conrad also claimed the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 12.20 meters. Striegel was close behind in second (11.89m), followed by Kelley in fifth (10.90m) and Claire Geerts in seventh (10.67m).
DeFord led the way in the hammer throw, finishing first with a toss of 45.79 meters. Striegel placed third (43.98m), Conrad came in fourth (42.87m), and Kelley followed in fifth (41.38m).
In the pole vault, Carla Santos cleared 3.05 meters to earn the event title. In the javelin, Miyah Fox secured a third-place finish with a mark of 31.10 meters, while Dayna Maiers placed fifth (29.09m).
On the track, two Mustangs added to the team's title count. Corinne Gadient won the 400-meter dash in 58.59 seconds, setting a new meet record in the process.
J'Lyn Knutson took first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.72. Esther Attwood finished sixth (2:27.96), and Annabelle Neal placed eighth (2:31.32).
In the 5,000 meters, Emma Althoff finished sixth in 20:10.70.
Kaylee Bunn led Mount Mercy in the 100-meter dash, placing third in 13.18 seconds. Gralynn Martin came in eighth (13.60), and Kiah Coffin placed ninth (13.72). Bunn also finished seventh in the 200 meters (27.98), followed by Martin in eighth (28.10).
Mount Mercy returns to action on Wednesday, April 23, at the Rittger's Invitational, hosted by Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
