Mustangs Continue Strong Weekend at Drake and Kip Janvrin
DES MOINES, Iowa — Mount Mercy's women's track and field team continued their busy weekend, competing Friday during day three of the Drake Relays and day two of the Kip Janvrin Invite.
On the track, the Mustangs' 4x400-meter relay team — Brooklyn Johnson, Esther Attwood, Corine Gadient and Catie Reittinger — finished 23rd overall in the preliminaries with a time of 4:03.98.
In the field, Ava Conrad represented the Mustang throwers at the Drake Relays, placing 23rd in the women's discus with a toss of 36.69 meters.
At the Kip Janvrin Open, the Mustangs had multiple strong performances in both field events and on the track.
In the women's discus, Alyssa Striegel paced the Mustangs with an eighth-place finish, throwing 40.99 meters. Grace Kelley followed closely in ninth at 40.54 meters. Natalie DeFord finished 20th with a toss of 36.48 meters.
DeFord also led Mount Mercy in the hammer throw, finishing 12th with a mark of 41.35 meters. Kelley was 15th at 36.68 meters, and Jaclyn Wooldridge placed 30th with a throw of 31.98 meters.
In the shot put, Striegel placed 14th with a throw of 11.45 meters. Wooldridge followed in 20th (10.05 meters), Kelley finished 22nd (10.02 meters) and DeFord was 24th (10.01 meters).
In the pole vault, Carla Santos finished 13th, clearing 2.92 meters.
On the track, Kilee Flockhart finished 66th overall in the women's 800 meters with a time of 3:05.94.
