Daggett sets assist mark as Mustangs clinch

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Kayla Daggett (SR/Madison, Wis.) became Mount Mercy's all-time leader in assists as the Mustangs clinched home court in the quarterfinals of the Heart of America Athletic Conference postseason tournament with a 3-1 victory over William Penn on Senior Day Sunday at Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Statesmen (12-6, 7-4 Heart) took the opening set, 25-22, before the Mustangs (8-2, 8-2 Heart) roared back to win three straight, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17. Daggett finished with 46 assists to give her 3,465 during a four-year career to slip past Mount Mercy Hall of Fame setter Lori Riha (3,437/1992-94).

Maddie Bell (SR/Ely, Iowa) hit .500 on the day, leading the Mustangs with 16 kills to go along with six blocks. Cassidy Boche (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) added 15 kills, Abbi Tunis (SR/Davenport, Iowa) 13 kills and a team-high seven blocks. Mackenzie Murphy (SO/Iowa City, Iowa) added nine kills while Gabi Delsing (SR/Coralville, Iowa) tallied 32 digs.

Mount Mercy closes out the regular season this week, traveling to Culver-Stockton (2-10, 2-7 Heart) on Tuesday and then hosting league-leading Grand View (10-0, 8-0 Heart) on Thursday. Both matches start at 7:00 p.m.
