Mustangs fall in Heart quarterfinals
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy offered up a third-set rally to extend the match, but MidAmerica Nazarene closed out the Mustangs in the fourth set to win a Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Championship quarterfinal on Tuesday night at Hennessey Recreation Center.
MidAmerica Nazarene (15-8), the No. 3 seed in the Heart's South Division, advances to a semifinal matchup with Park, the No. 1 seed in the South. The Pirates (17-1) defeated the North's No. 4 seed, Clarke, on Tuesday. Mount Mercy, the North's No. 2 seed, finishes the season at 10-4 overall.
Mackenzie Murphy (SO/Iowa City, Iowa)'s 17 kills led the Mustangs on Tuesday night. Cassidy Boche (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) added nine kills and 11 digs, Abbi Tunis (SR/Davenport, Iowa) eight kills and eight blocks. Kayla Daggett (SR/Madison, Wis.) finished with 39 assists, Gabi Delsing (SR/Coralville, Iowa) 22 digs. Olivia Makinen (JR/Beloit, Wis.) totaled seven blocks, Kendal McNaull five.
