Mustangs extend winning streak to four

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to four matches with Heart of America Athletic Conference road victories over Peru State and Graceland this weekend.

The Mustangs earned a 25-21, 26-24, 25-17 straight-set win at Peru State on Friday night in Peru, Neb. Laila Sain had 10 kills, Torie Alexander nine, and Maggie Peters eight to lead the Mount Mercy offense. Hailey Hested tallied 29 assists, Rylie Mussman 19 digs, and Peters totaled five blocks.

Mount Mercy dropped set number one at Graceland on Saturday, but won the next three easily for a 23-25, 25-13, 25-10, 25-11 victory over the Yellowjackets. Peters hit an incredible .857 with 12 kills in 14 attacks. Sain and Mackenzie Murphy finished with nine kills apiece. Hested had 36 assists, Mussman 20 digs, and Kendall McNaull four blocks.

The Mustangs (12-11, 8-6 Heart) will play their final two home matches of the regular season this week. They host 24th-ranked Grand View on Tuesday at 7:00 pm before celebrating Senior Day against Evangel on Saturday at noon at Hennessey Recreation Center.
