Mustangs swept in home finale

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team fell to Evangel, 3-0, Saturday, spoiling Senior Day at Hennessey Recreation Center. The Valor won by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-23 as the Mustangs finished the home portion of their season with a 7-3 record.

Seven different Mustangs combined for 41 kills, with Maggie Peters, Mackenzie Murphy, and Torie Alexander leading the attack with 11, 10, and nine, respectively. Hailey Hested had a match-high 37 assists. Rylie Mussman led Mount Mercy with 14 digs and Murphy added 12. Murphy, Mussman, Abby Redmond, and Brooke Beatty each had one service ace for the Mustangs.

Seniors Alexander and Olivia Makinen were honored in a pre-match ceremony. Mount Mercy fell to 12-13 overall and 8-8 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Evangel improved to 17-10, 9-6 Heart. The Mustangs close out the regular season on the road at Culver-Stockton (9-17, 5-10 Heart) on Tuesday, Oct. 26, MidAmerica Nazarene (13-15, 8-7 Heart) on Friday, Oct. 29, and fifth-ranked Park (21-2, 14-0 Heart) on Saturday, Oct. 30.
