Marlin has more than 20 years of volleyball coaching experience at the high school, college, and club levels. After beginning her playing career for Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School, she went on to play collegiately at Morningside, setting single-season and career records at both schools. One of her first stops as a collegiate coach was at Kirkwood Community College, where she led the Eagles to a top-five finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament, earning her the NJCAA Region V Coach of the Year award. The year prior, Marlin was also awarded Metro Coach of the Year for her work at the high school level. In 2006, following her head coaching stint at Kirkwood, Marlin began her Mount Mercy career as an assistant coach. After serving as an assistant for seven seasons, she took over as head coach of the Mustangs in 2013. Just two years later, Marlin propelled the Mustangs into the NAIA national tournament for the first time in school history.
