Pair of big innings power Mustangs

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy put up five runs in the third inning and four more in the sixth en route to a 10-6 victory over St. Ambrose on Tuesday night at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex. The Mustangs took four of five games from the Bees this season.

A two-run double by Kaimana Souza-Paaluhi and two-run homer from Justin Janssen were part of Mount Mercy's five-run third inning. Sam Stonskas added an RBI single in the fourth, then Drake Frazier drove in a run and Evan Paulus plated a pair all in the bottom of the sixth to cap the scoring for the Mustangs.

Stonskas, Souza-Paaluhi, Frazier, and Trey Roberson each had two hits for Mount Mercy, which pummeled St. Ambrose pitching for 12 hits in all. Ryne Schooley (3-2) allowed one unearned run on two hits while striking out five over five innings to get the win. Brady Schiesl and Nolan Frey each tossed a hitless inning of relief.

The Mustangs (23-12, 12-6 Heart) have their final road series of the season this weekend when they travel to Lamoni for a four game Heart of America Athletic Conference set with Graceland. First pitch is 1:00 pm on Friday and Saturday.
