Mustangs Fall in Opening Doubleheader with Morningside
OMAHA, Neb. — Mount Mercy (3-3) faced off against Morningside (5-1) in a doubleheader on Saturday, narrowly falling in both games. In the first matchup, the Mustangs lost a tight 1-0 contest, managing just one hit against Morningside's pitcher, Colby Nolan, who delivered a complete game shutout.
The game's lone run came in the second inning when Morningside capitalized on a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch, moving a pinch runner to third base. Michael King executed a bunt single, allowing Devin Conahan to score and giving Morningside a 1-0 lead. Mount Mercy's defense held firm, with Josh Bunkers being hit by a pitch in the fourth, but no further runs were conceded. Offensively, the Mustangs struggled, managing only a sixth-inning double by Derek Einertson. Despite efforts to rally in the final innings, Mount Mercy couldn't overcome Morningside's early lead, resulting in a final score of Morningside 1, Mount Mercy 0.

Caden Wilson started for Mount Mercy, allowing four earned runs in one inning with two walks and three hit batters.
