Willenborg enters his fourth season on the Mount Mercy coaching staff and has been the pitching coach in September 2023. He is learning and developing into coaching each year. He relies on his previous experiences both playing and coaching to strive for excellence. In addition to the pitching coach position, Willenborg has the responsibilities of Baseball Operations.

 

Willenborg graduated from Central City High School in Central City, Iowa, in 2016 and was recruited by Mount Mercy Head Baseball Coach Jack Dahm to pitch for the Mustangs. He was a Heart of America all-conference pitcher during his five-year career with the Mustangs. After graduation, Willenborg has developed six all-conference pitchers and an NAIA all-American. He ran the strength and conditioning for the baseball program as well in 2022. 

 

In addition to coaching at Mount Mercy, Willenborg also coaches high school baseball. His first two years at his alma mater (Central City). He then coached his next 6 years at Independence where the pitching was one of the best in the state, and the team reached two 30-win seasons in six years as well as helping lead them to a state tournament semifinal appearance. Willenborg took a new role at Marion High School where he was the assistant coach as well winning the WaMaC conference with an overall record of 24-9.
