Laube Pours on Career High to Lift Mustangs Past Benedictine

ATCHISON, Kan. — Mount Mercy executed efficiently on the perimeter and maintained control for most of the afternoon, securing an 82–72 win over Benedictine on Saturday. The victory marked the Mustangs' sixth consecutive win over the Ravens dating back to the 2022–23 season .

The Mustangs established early separation with a high-efficiency first half, shooting 60.7% from the field and 61.5% from beyond the arc en route to a 47–34 halftime lead. Brayson Laube anchored the offense with 35 points on 11-of-19 shooting, including four 3-pointers, and went a perfect 9-for-9 at the line.

Aidan Yamilkoski added 16 points and seven assists, spacing the floor with four 3-pointers while functioning as a secondary initiator. Jaxson Fried delivered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, controlling the defensive glass and providing key rim protection, including a block that stalled a Benedictine push early in the second half.

Mount Mercy maintained a steady assist-to-turnover ratio, finishing with 21 assists against just nine turnovers. The Mustangs also converted 13 of 17 free throws, stabilizing possessions during a stretch in which Benedictine cut the deficit to two possessions with under eight minutes remaining.

Benedictine's Deaglan Sullivan posted a team-high 22 points, and Preston Reynolds added 11, but the Ravens' 4-of-25 performance from deep limited their ability to counter Mount Mercy's perimeter efficiency .

Laube sealed the outcome at the line in the final minute, and Fried's late putback restored a multi-possession margin. The Mustangs' execution in half-court sets and consistent floor spacing ensured they remained in control, delivering another statement in the series.

The Mustangs will hit the court at home on Saturday, taking on William Woods at 1 p.m.
