Ortega Herreros' First Half Goal Lifts Mustangs Over Judson

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A first-half goal from Pablo Ortega Herreros proved decisive as Mount Mercy defeated Judson 1-0 on Wednesday at Hadzic Field. The Mustangs improved to 3-1-1 on the season, while Judson dropped to 1-2-1.

The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Ortega Herreros converted from inside the area off a service from Danilo Obradovic. The tally marked Ortega Herreros' fifth goal of the season and stood as the match-winner.

Mount Mercy generated consistent pressure, recording eight shots with four on frame. Ortega Herreros led the attack with two attempts, including the goal. Nico Woertz and Ensar Fejzic each forced saves, while Lucas Olivera added two shots. The Mustangs also held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks, creating multiple second-half opportunities, including back-to-back set pieces in the 82nd minute.

Defensively, Mount Mercy absorbed Judson's direct play. Goalkeeper Alejandro Cuende was called upon for just one save, securing his third win and clean sheet of the season. The back line, anchored by Ensar Fejzic and Alessandro Redolfi, cleared sustained Eagle pressure late in the match.

Judson managed seven shots but placed only one on goal. Their best chance came in the 75th minute when Inigo Capellan forced Cuende into a stop.

The Mustangs will start off Heart of America play at home against Grand View, taking place Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
