Hadzic Earns Career Victory No. 250 in Win Over (RV) William Woods

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Mount Mercy men's soccer used two second-half goals to secure a 2-1 victory over William Woods on Saturday night at Hadzic Field, giving head coach Amir Hadzic his 250th career win.

The Mustangs (5-2-1, 2-1-0) broke a scoreless deadlock in the 62nd minute when Pablo Ortega Herreros finished a low strike off a service from Guilherme Venancio. The tally marked Ortega Herreros' fourth straight match with a goal and continued his run of scoring in every contest but one this season.

Just 72 seconds later, Venancio doubled the lead by collecting a loose ball in the box and converting unassisted for a 2-0 advantage. The Owls (2-3-1, 0-2-1) cut into the deficit in the 86th minute on a goal from Francesco Dibra, but Mount Mercy saw out the closing stages to claim three points in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.

The Mustangs generated consistent pressure throughout, registering 15 shots with nine on frame, forcing Owls goalkeeper Matthew Dworak into seven saves. Mount Mercy also held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks, sustaining attacking sequences on both flanks. Venancio, Ortega Herreros, Pablo Lopez and Chris Difficile each tested the keeper with shots on target, while substitutes Leonardo Franco and Luca Teodoro added quality efforts off the bench.

In goal, Zach Biggs made two saves while managing the defensive line effectively against limited but dangerous opportunities from William Woods. The Owls finished with six total shots, including a pair that struck the woodwork or required intervention from Biggs.

The Mustangs will look to keep the unbeated streak going, taking on Culver-Stockton on the road on Wednesday, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
